Hidden Voices

1 – 31 May

The Grand Arcade,Wigan

An exhibition challenging negative stereotypes associated with homelessness though photography, creative writing and digital media.

Everyday, homeless people are forced to confront negative and, more often than not inaccurate, perceptions which severely damages their confidence, esteem and ultimately their ability to turn their lives around.

Clients from various services across the borough have been involved: Your Housing (sheltered accommodation for young people), The Brick (a drop in service for rough sleepers) and Riverside Housing (providing short and medium term accommodation).  Working with Curriculum Plus- an arts company based in Greater Manchester – they have attended sessions and produced work which you can see on display.

The project has used digital arts not only to help society understand the realities of homelessness in the borough, but also to provide various exits routes into volunteering, training and employment for participants.

An educational pack will also be available for schools.

The exhibition is opening during normal shopping centre opening hours.
